Woman leads cops to hit-and-run driver

Cape Town - A woman has helped lead the police to the driver, who allegedly killed Cape Town cyclist Koos Roux in a hit-and-run, the Cape Argus reported on Thursday.

Roux, 59, a former national cycling champion, was reportedly killed in Bottelary Road on 12 May, while riding with his son.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut told the newspaper a 51-year-old man handed himself over to police on Wednesday.

His vehicle was confiscated, and would be examined.

The Cape Argus reported that one of the women who helped find him was Mickey de Beer, a close friend of Roux's widow.

De Beer told the newspaper her friend's niece heard about the accident on Facebook, and reported seeing a smashed car being brought into her complex around the same time.

She reportedly struggled to get police to the complex and when they did they said: "No, it was not a bakkie".

However, she persisted and police returned to tow away the car, which prompted the driver to hand himself in, the newspaper reported.
