AVB: United can forget about Bale
SPURS have issued a “hands-off” warning to David Moyes over Gareth Bale.
And boss Andre-Villas Boas wants the club’s top brass to give the Welsh wizard a new deal.
Incoming Manchester United manager Moyes is said to be plotting a £60million swoop for the Spurs superstar in July.
But AVB has ruled out any chance of Bale joining Moyes this summer and said: “I’m pretty sure that whatever David does in the market will be excellent.
“But to get a player of Gareth’s dimension is firstly not in our interests and also very, very difficult to get.”
Bale, 23, who is under contract at Tottenham until 2016, has also been linked with European giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
But he is happy at Spurs and after being named Footballer of the Year by the PFA and Football Writers’ Association, he has hinted he could stay if he was offered a new contract.
Villas-Boas said: “I think he deserves it for the season he’s had. Obviously we could put to bed every single speculation that comes out.”
Despite needing their rivals to slip up to finish in the top four, AVB is confident he can convince Bale to stay.
The Portuguese coach, who takes his team to Stoke tomorrow, said: “You can always make your own understanding from what the player says and how he feels.
“You can see he is enjoying his football and all of the indications I have are that he will continue.”
Villas-Boas is braced for a Brawl Britannia — but admits he does not expect Charlie Adam to go looking for Bale — despite their previous.
The Spurs star accused the Scot of deliberately trying to injure him in a pre-season clash with Liverpool in Baltimore last summer.
AVB added: “I don’t think it will have an impact on Gareth.
“After the player acknowledged he made a bad tackle, it won’t happen again.”
