Marikana mob killing unrelated to strike

Johannesburg - A case against four men arrested for alleged murder and public violence in Wonderkop, Marikana, has been postponed by the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's court, North West police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Thulani Ngubani said the court postponed the matter to 28 May for a bail application, during an appearance on Wednesday.

He said the police initially arrested 10 people, but let six of them go as they were not linked to the crimes.

The four remaining suspects, Reginald Disang Malanka, 36, Tshepo Lesejane, 30, Marcus Magodielo, 34, and Tshepo Modisanyane, 25, would remain in custody.

On Monday, two men were killed in an apparent mob justice attack at the Selokong informal settlement.

A crowd of residents had apparently accused the two of committing theft and other crimes in the area.

Ngubane had said the killings were unrelated to issues connected with Lonmin's platinum mine in Marikana.
