David de Gea is eager to return to Manchester United on a short-term deal.
The seasoned goalie's contract at Old Trafford expired during the summer, leaving him a free agent.
According to The Sun, United wants to sign De Gea as insurance for Andre Onana, who will represent Cameroon at the January Africa Cup of Nations.
United will be without Onana due to his choice to return from international retirement; their other two senior keepers are Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.
After just releasing him, the club is now prepared to turn to De Gea.
The 32-year-old Spaniard was a member of Old Trafford for 12 years before his contract ended.
