Roberto Firmino's father collapses and dies on a trip with his footballer son.

Following a family trip to the Middle East, Liverpool hero Roberto Firmino's father fell and died at the age of 62.

Jose Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira died after becoming ill just days after laughing and smiling with his family at a theme park. Following reports in their home country of Brazil, Firmino's close friends confirmed the news.

According to Brazilian news outlet UOL, Jose Roberto died of a heart attack while visiting the United Arab Emirates with his loved ones, and efforts are now being made to return his corpse home.

Firmino wrote of his father in a poignant letter posted about him during his time at Liverpool in 2019: "You are my childhood hero, my inspiration, and my role model."

"I owe everything I am to your generosity, dedication to your family, and the seriousness and honesty with which you have built your career."

"Your sincere and simple way of living teach me the true values of life."

"My father, Jose, was my childhood hero, an inspiration and an example," he said in his book on his time at Anfield. A generous, serious, honest, and family-oriented man."

Firmino left Liverpool to join Al-Ahli after eight seasons in England, where he scored 111 goals for the legendary club.

In a dazzling spell under Jurgen Klopp, the former Hoffenheim forward won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.

His best season at the club came in 2017/18, when he scored 27 goals in all competitions as Liverpool advanced to the Champions League final.

Since then, the 32-year-old has scored three goals in 12 Saudi Pro League games alongside Edouard Mendy and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Firmino and his wife Larissa Pereira, whom he married in their hometown in 2017, have four daughters.
