Justin Theroux brokers 'peace treaty' between Jennifer Aniston and her mother in time for their wedding

She has been estranged from her mother for years – but now Jennifer Aniston’s fiancé Justin Theroux is attempting to broker a peace treaty in time for their wedding.
Stunning Jennifer, 44, joined her fiancé and his mother Phyllis Grissim-Theroux for dinner in Manhattan on Monday night.
Contrary to reports, however, the trio were NOT joined by the star’s mother, Nancy Dow, at the Blue Hill restaurant – where Justin to proposed to Jennifer on his 41st birthday on August 15 last year.
And a source told MailOnline: ‘Right now, Jennifer is going back and forth. As it stands, she’s going to invite Nancy to the wedding – but it’s not set in stone.

If Nancy does get an invitation it will be a remarkable turnaround of events as Jennifer stopped talking to her mom after Nancy gave a television interview in 1996 about the relationship - and later wrote a revealing book, ‘From Mother And Daughter To Friends: A Memoir' about their problems.

The rift was so bad that Jennifer failed to invite her mother - now 77 - to her 2000 wedding to Brad Pitt, saying in 2001: 'This is the last chunk of disease in my life – my mom.'

But the friend said: ‘Justin has been instrumental in convincing Jen to reconcile with her mother. He's encouraged her to forgive Nancy for writing a book about Jen and giving interviews about her that she regarded as excessively indiscreet.‘

‘Two years ago Jen was adamant she'd never talk to her mother again. Justin has asked her to give her mother another chance especially as she's been recovering from a hip operation.

‘Justin's mantra is that time heals and he's urged her to invite her mother to the wedding.’

In September 2011, Jennifer was believed to have rushed to her ailing mother’s bedside after she suffered a serious stroke, with Justin by her side.

At the time many hoped fears for her mother’s health had finally put an end to the bitter rift that had torn them apart for more than a decade. However, Jennifer soon flew back to New York.

The former Friends star, who is currently filming her new movie Squirrels To The Nuts in Manhattan – while Justin films his new HBO pilot at the same time – has joked that she always hits it off her mothers-in-law, according to the source.

Indeed she remains so close to Jane Pitt, the mother of movie star Brad, that Jane is most definitely invited to the wedding.

And Jennifer has become equally as close to her new mother-in-law-to-be, Phyllis.

‘Jen and Justin's mother have bonded over a number of shared interests, notably trying to get Justin to curtail the speed with which he drives his motorbike,’ said the source.

‘Justin's mother hits it off with Jen because she has written a book about California and they often talks about West Coast life. Jen finds her fascinating.

‘But she's also been instrumental in convincing Jen that New York is a great city. Jen swore off New York saying it was like "living in a goldfish bowl" but she's gone back to liking it while she's been filming We're The Millers and The Theroux family have been instrumental in changing her mind.’

As MailOnline revealed, Jennifer and Justin put their summer wedding on hold due to their increasingly frantic work schedules.

They also disagreed over where to tie the knot – but are now believed to be preparing to wed in California in December.

While they won't have the ceremony at their newly renovated $21 million Bel Air mansion - they may well use it for an A-list reception.
